| Question: | How do I improve my success when removing coffee, tea or wine stains? |
| Answer: | 1.The first step with any stain removal is to try and identify the fibre, construction and soil type. Pre-test all products to be used in an inconspicuous area before use and then if you have a coffee, tea or wine stain the first step is to apply the correct enzyme detergent spotter either Enzall, Prekleen or Liquid Enzyme Spotter. Allow some dwell time to allow the enzyme to break down the protein solid such as sugar, milk fruit etc. 2. If there is a remaining residue of dye colour apply a dye remover such as Spray n Go. This is a powder product mixed with hot water this gives you not only the heat which is helpful but also the flexibility of strengthening or weakening the mix to suit the stain. 3. Spray the area lightly with a high surfactant spotter such as Neutral Detergent or Professional Spot Lifter and leave in the carpet before applying the Spray n Go. Boost with heat using a hair dryer which allows you to see that the dye removal is not causing any fading to the carpet or a steam iron over a towel which needs to be watched regularly and used carefully. 4. Boosting with a pre application of surfactant (wetting agent) allows the dye remover to come in contact with the stain more effectively and therefore offers more chance of removal - heat will keep the dye remover active. 5. Always rinse out dye removers such as Spray n Go with a cold water rinse, this removes the residue but also stops the action of the dye removal process. |
