Question: Many products are considered degradable. Why is ECOgent different?
Answer: ECOgent is different because it is not only readily degradable--a standard required by most ECO LOGO programs--but ECOgent ingredients have demonstrated complete degradation under all environmental conditions.
Most bio-degradation tests consider a substance’s ability to degrade under aerobic conditions (where oxygen is available) but not under anaerobic conditions (where oxidation cannot occur). In fact many raw materials used in detergents claiming biodegradability--even ready biodegradability--are not significantly degraded under anaerobic conditions.
It is very important that the chemicals we use degrade completely with or without the presence of oxygen in river and lake sediments, waste treatment plants and septic systems. Otherwise these toxic detergent residues may persist in the environment.
